How to Store Hair Accessories

If your hair accessories live in a tangled heap at the bottom of a drawer, you are not alone. Knowing how to store hair accessories properly keeps your clips, ties, pins and headbands easy to find, in good shape, and lasting far longer. Here is how we keep ours sorted at Sable, with a few simple ideas you can set up today.

Start by sorting what you actually use

Before you store anything, tip everything out and split it into three piles: everyday favourites, occasion pieces, and the broken or stretched-out ones you can finally let go of. Storing only what you wear keeps the system tidy and makes the morning rush so much easier.

Headbands: keep their shape

Headbands hold their shape best when they are not squashed flat. Stand them upright in a small container, loop them over a vertical paper towel holder, or hang structured styles on a hook. Keep rhinestone and pearl pieces separate from fabric ones so nothing snags. Browse our headbands if you are ready to refresh your edit.

Hair ties and scrunchies: corral the chaos

Hair ties disappear faster than anything else, so give them a home. Thread elastics onto a carabiner or a short length of ribbon, and store silk scrunchies in a shallow dish or drawer divider so they keep their volume. Or a better hack is a paper towel holder. Looks cute with all your scrunchies all stacked up on display. A quick wash every so often keeps them fresh. See our full range of hair ties and scrunchies.

Clips, pins and barrettes: stop the snagging

Bobby pins belong in a small magnetic dish or tin so they stop migrating across the house. Clip claw clips onto the edge of a small box or a hanging organiser, and keep delicate barrettes flat in a lined drawer so the finish does not scratch.

Silk scarves: fold, do not scrunch

Silk and satin scarves last longest folded loosely or rolled, never crumpled. Store them flat in a drawer away from direct sunlight, which can fade the colour over time.

Heading away? Keep it simple

For travel, a small zip pouch or a glasses case keeps everyday pieces together and tangle-free in your bag. A weekly pill organiser is perfect for sorting earrings, pins and tiny clips by day.
