New Year, New You, Clean Hair

One of my resolutions every year (except for the keeping my car tidy) is washing my hair more. For everyone that knows me will know having hair that is washed once a week is a good week. I'm not a fan of the clean hair feel, I love my hair on day 3 and 4. And with my favourite product - Super Dust I love it even more on day 6 and 7!! Big hair don't care and a pony tail is my friend.

But when I do wash it I make sure its super clean. I have experimented over the years with washing my hair and this is what works best for me.

Because my hair is usually washed once a week and is full of either Super Dust or Dry Shampoo, I always start with a clarifying shampoo. My new favourite is Oribe The Cleanse Clarifying Shampoo. After I have throughly wet my hair I apply a small apricot size amount. This shampoo uses an aerosol mousse formula to create a cream lather. As it mixes with water, volcanic ash detoxifies and polishes away dirt, oil, and product buildup (ok I took that last line from their website, but it quite a unique texture and colour).
If I don't get any real lather I quickly put a little more water on my hair and lather again. The first shampoo breaks the water tension/barrier on the hair so sometimes need a little more encouragement.

Why use a Clarifying Shampoo?? I use it for a few reasons, one being my scalp needs a good clean, and also we are on tank water. But this is also perfect for people who would have buildup from chlorine, hard water, and styling products.

Next use the shampoo thats for your hair type. I have recently started using Oribes Bright Blonde for Beautiful Colour Shampoo and Conditioner. I use this because I have blonde hair and a few greys and as the bottle says -

"If you’re like us, you consider colour correction to be one of the greatest beauty hacks of all time. (Seriously? Red lipstick can cancel out dark circles? Green primer conceals acne? It’s basically modern magic.) And Oribe is using colour correction to help blonde hair shine even brighter. This nourishing shampoo is enriched with violet pigments to cancel out yellow and brassy tones as it restores blonde or silver hair to its most brilliant self. Meanwhile, a blend of vitamins, antioxidants, and conditioners keeps hair healthy and strong."

Enough said. Because this shampoo is purple I like to leave it on for a few minutes to let it do its colour correction thing.

And now for the game changer. Conditioner.

Best hair hack ever is face cloth and Tangle Teezer. Always use a face cloth or small hand towel to blot out excess water from you hair. This means you need less product and your are not diluting what you are using. Always apply your conditioner or mask to the mid lengths and ends of your hair. This is what needs the most love and detangling.

Now I use the Wet Detangler Brush by Tangle Teezer to help get the conditioner through my hair, believe me you'll notice a huge difference using this than just spreading it with your fingers.
Now let your conditioner or mask work its magic - shave your legs, cleanse your face or just sing your favourite song. I find Oribes Bright Blonde Conditioner is like gold, the formula’s violet pigments work to cancel out yellow and brassy tones, and more exciting it will protect against UV damage!!

Now rinse.

Its as easy as that. I knew I was on to a winner after I did this routine and let my hair dry naturally - my husband had asked if I had blow waved it and even the courier the next day commented on how amazing my hair looked!

And the best thing to remember is you SHAMPOO your scalp and CONDITION your hair.

And lastly speed up drying with Louvelles Hair towels, because hair is most fragile when wet you don't want to bed roughing it up with any old towel. And you will also dry your hair in half the time than a regular towel!
